A4 Lingos
Folder
Sometimes also called a Directory, it is a special icon in an operating system that can be used to “store” digital files or other folders inside of it. Folders are great for helping keep your files organized. Folders can be named and renamed in the operating system.
Digital File
Anything that you can create and save from a software program or application is a file. A file is a set of instructions that were created by a piece of software. Most of time, the software application will prompt you to name the file, or you can rename the file in the operating system.
Sort
In regards to digital content, this is the ability to take digital files/folders and organize them in different ways, including by date created, file size, and name of digital file/Folder.
File Extensions
A special tag at the end of files in the form of a group of letters occurring after a period in a file name, indicating the format of the file.
Digital Image File
These are files that appear as photos and graphic art on your digital device. Examples of these files include .jpg, .png, and .gif.
Digital Audio File
These are files that play sound on your digital device. Examples of these files include .mp3, .m4a, .wma, and .aac.
Digital Video File
This type of file allows playback of video on a digital device. Examples of this file type include .mp4, .mov, .wmv, and .flv.
Presentation Files
These are files that contain slideshow presentations. Examples of these files come from Microsoft Powerpoint, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides.
Word Processing Files
These are files that contained typed documents of different formats. Examples of these files come from Microsoft Word, Apple Pages, and Google Docs.
Spreadsheet Files
These are files that contain spreadsheets. Examples of these files come from Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, and Google Sheets.
Web Browser
A type of software application that allows the user to access information and applications on the internet. Popular web browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari. We will be focusing on Google Chrome in this class.
Bookmarks
These are shortcuts to websites and other resources on the World Wide Web that you can save on your web browser or on special web apps.

A4 Learning Activities
- For FSQ 1, organize your Google Drive so that you have a folder for each one of your classes that you are currently in. You can have more than just the 6 folders, but make sure you include them. Take a screenshot of your Google Drive from BOTH Google Chrome AND from the Google Drive folder on your Mac workstation. Place the screenshots on your FSQ 1 slide and label them.
- For FSQ 2, take a screenshot of a file and a folder on your desktop of your Mac workstation AND from Google Drive through a web browser. It can be anything appropriate for school. Be sure to label each.
- For FSQ 3, take screenshots of renaming file or folder names in both Mac OSX and in Google Chrome. Be sure to label which one is Mac and which one is Chrome Browser examples.
- For FSQ 4, take screenshots of an open Apple OSX window and a screenshot of your GSA Google Drive account as seen through Google Chrome. Be sure to highlight the sort controls.
- For FSQ 5, construct the table from the example in the Google Slides/Tables tutorials, which are the last three in the A4 Tutorial Tools & Resources list. The tutorials are reposted below as well:
- For FSQ 6, take a screenshot of your login window for Google Drive on your Mac workstation, and the login screen from the web browser for Google Chrome. Be sure to explain which each is and does so we can understand the differences.
- For FSQ 7, create bookmarks to the KHMS Tech Ed website, Powerschool, Google Classroom, tying.com, and BrainPop in your Bookmark Bar in Google Chrome. Be sure to be logged in to your Google Student Account (GSA) when you make the bookmarks so that they save to your account. Take a screenshot of your bookmarks and put the screenshot on your FSQ 7 slide.

- Be sure to think about the example table we made for FSQ 5 involving Productivity Software. The table layout should be similar.
- This Table can be added as a slide in your Module A digital notebook or as a separate slideshow.
- Please title your Table: Digital Media File Categories & Extensions
- Your table headings should be: Digital Media File Type, Digital Media File Examples, and File Extensions
- Organize the information below into their proper spot.
- Be sure to demonstrate your understanding of spacing, border controls, and background color when designing your table. Make it look good!
- When you are finished, create a pdf of your finished product. Title your completed A4 Level 4 PDF as follows : s1_ ylnA4lvl4
