ALERT: B4 Visual Content Development
As you begin the Tips to an Effective Slideshow below, be sure to keep in mind the Level 4 Activity below. It involves creating visuals for FSQs 1-7 above.
Tips to an Effective Slideshow
Part 1: To start the B4 Visual Content Development activity, recreate the 5 slides below in your own style, including your own background style, bullet style, and text. The examples are in image format as well as a PDF. Before you begin, however, look over the slides so you understand what you are creating. Next, watch the two tutorials below. The first video shows you some options for backgrounds, the 2nd video shows you some info on using bullets in your slideshow. These are generic videos, not necessarily specific to this activity.

Part 2: Now lets add some visual appeal to our slideshow presentation by exploring slide transitions and animations. If you forgot what these are, be sure to check the B4 Lingos list for their definition, and the tutorials listed below have reminders as well. Next to each tutorial link are the requirements for demonstrating this skill in the Tips to an Effective Slideshow presentation that you are creating for the B4 Visual Content Development. Read each requirement carefully and do exactly what they say.
- Google Slides - Transitions Tutorial. Create a transition for each of the 5 slides in your Level 3 presentation. The transitions can be the same or different.
- Google Slides - Animations Tutorial. Create animations on Slide 2 of your B4 Visual Content Development presentation ONLY.
Part 3: Next, lets explore some different ways to add content to our slides. We have already looked at ways to add images to our slides earlier in the semester. However, there are other types of digital content that can be added to Google Slides, including video, audio, and links to content on the web. Take a look at the tutorials below, and follow the written instructions with the tutorials which give specifics for how to use this presentation skill on your B4 Visual Content Development work.
- Google Slides - Insert Video Tutorial. Create a small video on slide 5 of your B4 Visual Content Development activity, similar to the tutorial. Use the video Linked Here.
- Google Slides - Creating Links Tutorial. Create text linked to a website using the same text as in the tutorial on Slide 5. Use the web address Linked Here.
- Google Slides - Insert Image with Search Tutorial. Find a small play button or musical image to use on Slide 1 of your B4 Visual Content Development. You will use this image to link audio to.
- Google Slides - Insert Audio. Pick a song from the list of audio files Linked Here. Link the file to your music/play image on Slide 1.
Wrapup: We are finished with adding content to our Tips to an Effective Slideshow. Now it is time to polish things up and turn in your creation. Before turning the slideshow in, please take time to consider the Tips on your slides. Does your creation follow these guidelines? Look them over carefully, and make any changes you think need to be made to make your slideshow the best possible. Also, consult the B4 Visual Content Development Checklist below to see how to maximize your score on this activity. When you are ready, make sure you name your file following this format: s2_ylnB4vcd. Share your slideshow to the B4 Visual Content Development assignment in Google Classroom.
B4 Performance Task
Slideshow Skills Tutorials
The B4 FSQs 1-7 are each about a featured skill that is part of most presentation apps. For this learning target, we will be using Google Slides to practice and demonstrate these features. You will to create explanations for the B4 FSQs 1-7 (excluding FSQ 4, that is our example). The task is to develop a step by step slideshow guide on how to use the feature of each FSQ as if you were teaching others. For each step, their should be a visual to assist others in understanding your instructions. Sometimes there is more than one way to access a feature, so pick the one that you are most likely to use. Highlight important control(s) in the screenshot, and use arrows to help visualize steps in your explanation. It also may be helpful to use animations to create step by step presentations with the instructions. We will practice on FSQ 4 in class together.
Your FSQ Tutorials should include the following features:
Your FSQ Tutorials should include the following features:
- Screenshots helping to demonstrate the skill of your assigned FSQ.
- Step by step instructions on how to do the skill of your assigned FSQ.
- Use of shapes to help explain the skill in that FSQ better.
- A Well laid out set of slides that is easy to follow and understand (5 slides Max).
- Demonstrate skill in using animations, transitions, and hyperlinks if necessary.
- Follow the Tips to an Effective Slideshow from Level 3.
Step 1: Develop Step By Step instructions for the B4 FSQs for Google Slides. These should be written instructions that are easy to read, and can relate to screenshots you have in mind. HINT: It may be a good strategy to give each step its own slide.
Step 3: To help with each step of the FSQ, develop screenshots and visual helpers (shapes, arrows, highlighting, etc.). You may want to use animations to really make your explanations stand out.
Step 4: Polish up your slideshows by picking effective backgrounds, attention grabbing slide transitions, and follow our Tips to an Effective slideshow.
Be sure to consult the rubric below to earn the best score possible on this activity!
To Turn In: Copy your 7 FSQ slides from B4 that you created instructions and visuals for (teaching content) into a new slideshow, so that you have a copy of your slides in your digital notebook and in the new slideshow. Be sure to rename your new slidshow the following: S2_ylnb4pt. REMEMBER, CREATE A NEW SLIDESHOW WITH YOUR 7 SLIDES, DO NOT TURN IN YOUR ACTUAL DIGITAL NOTEBOOK.
