Part 1-Structure Practice Drawing in Tinkercard
Part 1.A Lets do a warmup activity to get us thinking about design, scale, and Tinkercad! Construct a bridge the likeness of the image below using Tinkercad. The dimensions dont need to be exactly the same, just something similar. Your beam pieces need to measure 1/8" x 1/8". The bridge you design needs to span 12", so make sure your grid is at least 12" wide.
Listed below are some other designs that you can practice recreating in Tinkercad. The reason for this exercise is to get you thinking about structure design and to do such design using 3D software like Tinkercad. For the recreations below, again think about the material for the structure being 1/8" x 1/8" across. This time, the bridges need to cover a span of 24" across, so set your Tinkercad grid to at least 24".
Part 1.B Now lets practice on a common tower design. Re-create the tower design below using Tinkercad. Your construction material is 1/8" x 1/8" balsa wood, and your structure topneeds to elevate at least 12" off the surface. Turn in your final drawing in Google Classroom.
Part 2 - Your Tower Design
Design Time! Its time to design your own balsa wood tower. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the Balsa Wood Tower Challenge listed at the top of the webpage. Also take some time to read over the Rules & Guidelines for this Challenge. As you think about your design, be sure consider the following:
