B3 Lingos
Website
Sometimes also spelled "web site", is a collection of webpages which share content that is connected to a certain topic, purpose, or theme.
Webpage
Also spelled "web page". It is the basic document that shows content on the World Wide Web through a web browser.
HTML
Stands for "Hypertext Markup Language". This is the programming language that is used to create webpages.
Homepage
This is the starting page for a website. It is the page that will show when you go to a website's main url address. A homepage will usually state the general purpose of the website, and contain a navigation bar to help the visitor to the website find what they are looking for.
Navigation Bar
A feature of effective websites that links to other webpages to help a visitor find content throughout the website. Most, if not all, the webpages on a website will be linked in the navigation bar in some way.
Content
Refers to the information that is presented on a webpage. This can include text, audio, video, images, files, etc.
Header
In terms of a website, this is the part that introduces the company, group, or purpose responsible for the website, and usually contains the navigation bar. The logo for the company or group is usually featured here, and often times other tools like a search bar for links to social media sharing can be found here as well.
Buttons
In terms of a website, a button is a special object on a webpage that can be used to hyperlink to other content. This differs from hyperlinking text because the button will have a special shape and will typically use color to stand out from ordinary text. Buttons can be found anywhere on a webpage, including the navigation bar.
Preview
The ability to see what a webpage/website looks like before it is set up on the World Wide Web.
Publish
In website terms, it is the process of taking a webpage/website that you have created and/or make changes to and making it available to be seen on the World Wide Web.
Web Browser
A special piece of software application that is able to read HTML code and present it as webpages for the user to see and interact with.
Canvas
A term used by many web developers to describe the space on the page where contenc is located.

B3 Learning Activity 1: Build A Passion Topic Website!
Think about interests and things that you do in your life that you have a true passion for. Perhaps a hobby, sport, activity online, something you do regularly with a family member or friend, or a "foodie" obsession? Pick one of your passions that you can use as a theme for creating a educational website about. Your task in this learning activity is to practice building in the features listed below into a Google Sites page that have a theme that fits your passion. For example, perhaps your passion are smoothies! Find a video that talks about your favorite smoothie recipe, or maybe a picture of your all-time favorite smoothie from your favorite restaurant. How you set up your website is up to you! You just need to practice building the features below. Be sure to use the Tutorial Tools & Resources below to assist you in learning how to use Google Sites. Lets see what you can create!

Create a Learning Portfolio Website!
Now that you have had some time to learn the basics of how to use Google Sites, lets practice by creating a learning portfolio website! The purpose of this website is to showcase what you have learned about the various topics that we have covered here in Technology class. We will be showcasing your digital projects, creations, and achievements from this semester. Lets get started!
Part 1: Website Setup
Part 2: Module Page Setup
Now that you have had some time to learn the basics of how to use Google Sites, lets practice by creating a learning portfolio website! The purpose of this website is to showcase what you have learned about the various topics that we have covered here in Technology class. We will be showcasing your digital projects, creations, and achievements from this semester. Lets get started!
Part 1: Website Setup
- Create a new Google Sites website project
- Title your website "{Your First Name, Last Initial if someone in class has the same name} Learning Portfolio: KHMS Tech"
- On your home page, Insert a simple text box with the following information: "The purpose of this website is showcase what I have learned and accomplished in my KHMS Technology Class. We have badges that signify the level of understanding that I have on each topic, and examples of the learning I have done and/or requirements that I have met. Thanks for taking an interest in my learning!"
- Create 4 additional web pages in your site, each showing in the navigation bar at the top. Name each page after our four learning modules that we are working thru. You can find the information about the modules by clicking here.
- You may dress up your website however you want, pick the color scheme and themes that you enjoy! Just remember, you will be sharing this with others, including parents, so show us your Personal Best!
Part 2: Module Page Setup
- Now, lets start setting up the Module pages for content. Go to the Modules Page to see all of the Learning Target Titles for that Module.
- Create a section for each Learning Target Title on the Module page it belongs. Underneath or next to the Title, record the iCan statement that goes with that Learning Target.
- Do this for all the Learning Targets we have covered so far.
Part 3: Module Page LT Content Prep
- Lets continue set up our LT sections for more content. Use the shapes below to hold a spot for content that we are going to add to each Learning Target.
- Use a divider feature in between each Learning Target to help distinguish between each section. Also, create a text box with your marker that we can use to type in a brief description of what the Performance Task is. Take a look at the example below. Feel free come up with your own layout.
