Requirements: Listed below are the requirements for this project:
Students are tasked with creating a game in Gamestar Mechanic that demonstrates deep understanding of the Elements of Game Design, Game Balance, and Theme Building.
Instructions: Listed below are the requirements for this project:
Balance
- Game becomes more challenging as player progresses through levels.
- Balance between success and challenge is appealing to player.
Goals & Rules
- The Short Term Goal(s) of each level are correctly identified.
- The Long Term Goal(s) for the game are correctly identified and described.
- The rules for each level give the player just the right amount of information to play the level, yet leaving room for discovery and creativity.
- The different types of rules are identified and addressed.
- Rules and Goals are well written and easy to understand, using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Components
- The game uses different Avatars as characters to engage the player, and change the challenge between levels.
- Environment components are used to help create a unique stage for each level.
- Enemies/bosses are diverse between levels, and even within levels.
Mechanics
- The game uses different mechanics to challenge the player.
- At least 2 different mechanics used on each level.
Space/Stage & Theme
- The Stage is different between levels, adding to the challenge of the game.
- The Perspective for each level fits the purpose/goal for the level.
- 2 Levels minimum for this project, 3 Levels required for an Excellent score.
- The theme is explained through the storyline of the game, which includes introducing the avatars/enemies/bosses as characters, their relationship to each other, and how they all relate to the goal of the game. This should be a well written paragraph or more that explains the storyline of the game.
